Our Story

HomeOur Story

Being true children of the information age, we met on eHarmony. October 1, 2003, was Jana's first day on the site and she was home with a sick child. Mike was also home sick so we went through eHarmony's four stages of communication that same day.

We quickly progressed to emailing each other outside eHarmony and on October 8, we spoke on the phone for the first time (2 hours and we only quit then because it was getting late).

October 11, we went on our first date, to the Stockyards Murder Mystery in the Fort Worth Stockyards. We had a great time at the show and even guessed the murderer (unfortunately, six other tables did also).

Mike had Sunday dinner with Jana's family the next Sunday (October 13). Jana met Mike's parents on October 21.

We continued to date and talk and email. We took Jana's two girls, Madison & Mary, to Boo at the Zoo, to Chuck E. Cheese, and to Frosty the Snowman among other fun things. Jana and Mike went to Momma Mia, the Dallas Motorcycle Show, an Aggie Ballgame (with Phil & Dee), and several events at the Bass Hall. We pretty much knew we were getting serious and were talking about "If we decide to get married, what would be a good date" and "How would we handle finances" and other serious and not so serious issues.

Jana went with Mike to Thanksgiving in Houston where she met the rest of his immediate family (David & Veta). On the way back from Houston with Phil & Dee a ring was purchased. Jana knew it was one of two rings, but didn't know which one.

Finally on December 23, in a magic moment, Mike asked Jana to marry him. We had brought the girl's train set home from Jana's parent's house earlier that day and Mike tried to get the ring to fit on a train so it could stop in front of Jana. But it wouldn't stay on. So quickly switching to plan B, he hid the ring in cushions of the couch. After the girls went to bed, Jana and Mike sat down to talk. Talk went to what we were going to do the next day (for Christmas Eve celebrations) and Mike told Jana he wanted to talk about the schedule for the rest of our lives. Mike said Jana was the best thing that ever happened to him, that he wanted to spend the rest of his life loving her and asked her to be his wife. Jana cried and said Yes, Yes, Yes!

And so we come to here, a long four months till our wedding day, a short interlude before our lives together.
